National Racehorse Week

National Racehorse Week is a nationwide annual celebration of the racehorse and a chance to see first-hand the love, care and attention that goes into looking after them.

In an experience like no other, racing training yards, studs and aftercare centres up and down the country will be open their doors to the public to showcase the fantastic lives that these magnificent animals lead.

National Racehorse Week was born out of an idea in 2019 by trainer Richard Phillips. His vision was to create a single event that the entire country could get behind to celebrate the animals who power racing and provide entertainment for millions, whilst also providing the public and policymakers with insight into the dedicated care that they receive.

Since then, National Racehorse Week has gathered momentum and support from across the racing industry. We cannot wait for you to take part in this one-off experience like no other.

Chris Hughes

ITV Racing Presenter and National Racehorse Week Champion
“I have always been a massive fan of racehorses and this week is very much about connecting people and families to the horses and giving them a chance to meet these equine stars. This is a unique opportunity to see the horses at home relaxing in their favourite places.”

“Every horse is different and has its own personality, part of the fun of working with them is getting to know their cheeky ways. I love that National Racehorse Week gives us a chance to show them off at home and people can get to meet them for themselves.”

Nicky Henderson OBE

Six-time Champion Trainer

“We are delighted to support National Racehorse Week which is a wonderful initiative to promote horseracing by opening our doors to a large number of people to see the workings involved behind the scenes in getting a horse to a racecourse.  It is so important to be able to show how these wonderful horses are cared for and the work that goes in to their preparation by all our wonderful staff.”

Richard Phillips

Racehorse Trainer

“National Racehorse Week is an ideal opportunity to show the world the incredible love and care racehorses receive and all the joy and happiness they give back to us.  I am so pleased that this year, studs and retraining and rehoming centres also opened to emphasise the human devotion that thoroughbred’s receive throughout their lives.”

Charlie Johnston

Racehorse Trainer

“National Racehorse Week is a great opportunity to show people what we do behind the scenes to show the level of care for these racehorses. People are amazed at the facilities that we have as it’s such a specialized infrastructure plus the number of staff and the level of veterinary care, it really opens people’s eyes to what goes into a racehorse”

David Pipe

Racehorse Trainer

“I am delighted to welcome members of the public during National Racehorse week. I am proud of the work we do and the care and attention our horses receive and it is nice for people to see what goes on in a yard behind the scenes. It is a brilliant opportunity for people to get up close and meet our equine athletes and speak to the staff who look after them 24/7 and see how loved and adored they are. National Racehorse Week shines a light on the magnificent horses and their day to day life, as well as the hard work and love of the people who look after them”
