Overview

The Henry Cecil Open Weekend, named in memory of legendary trainer Sir Henry Cecil,  is looking forward to welcoming visitors once again to Newmarket, the head-quarters of British horseracing, on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September 2023. Enjoy an action-packed weekend of events and the rare opportunity to delve behind the scenes at some of Britain’s best known horseracing yards and enjoy all Newmarket has to offer.

Last year the Henry Cecil Open Weekend raised over £55,000 for our charity partners and this year is raising money in support of Racing Welfare, British Racing School who are celebrating their 40th anniversary and Newmarket Open Door, a charity who provides supported housing and new opportunities for homeless and vulnerable people in the Newmarket area.

Many of the finest equine establishments around Newmarket open on Saturday including Newmarket Equine Hospital, The National Stud, Peter O’Sullevan House, British Racing School and Jockey Club Rooms before Newmarket’s Gold Season kicks off with the Cesarewitch Trial Day.

Sunday morning begins early on Warren Hill where stars of the racing industry canter in front of crowds, last year visitors saw Baaeed and Alpinista among many others on Warren Hill gallops. Yards then open their doors to enable the public exclusive behind the scenes access. An afternoon of entertainment on The Severals concludes the weekend which includes a Shetland Grand National, racing personality show jumping featuring some of the top trainers and jockeys, parade of retired racehorses kindly sponsored by Al Shaqab and a fun dog show.

The full list of yards opening will be announced in August.
