Overview

Chestnut Tree Stables was originally called Marriott Stables when built by The Jockey Club along the then undeveloped Hamilton Road in 1968. Champion trainer Henry Cecil was its first occupant and trained back to back Guineas winners in Wollow and Bolkonski, before he moved to his then father in law, Sir Noel Murless' Warren Place. Lord Huntingdon, the Queen's former trainer, was another distinguished owner of the yard, and its last owner before Rae was Robert Williams. Rae bought the yard in 1998, when it was not in good condition. Now all the boxes have been re-ventilated, re-insulated and fitted with heat lamps. There is an indoor ride; an all-weather trotting ring; an equine treadmill; nineteen turnout paddocks; and six sand pits for horses to roll in.
